You can change your elections within 31 calendar days of a qualifying life event.

Changing Your Benefits After a Life Event

You may be able to make changes to your benefits when you experience one of these qualifying life events:

• Marriage, divorce or legal separation
• Birth or adoption of a child
• Loss or gain of other coverage by you or a dependent
• Eligibility for Medicare or Medicaid

When you make a change, you may need to provide proof of the event, such as a marriage certificate, birth certificate, adoption papers, divorce decree, or loss-of-coverage documentation.

Enrolling a newborn or adopted child is not automatic. A newborn or adopted child must be enrolled within 31 days of the birth or placement date. Be sure to submit the required information and supporting documentation within that window.

If you do not make your election within 31 days of the qualifying life event, you will have to wait until the next annual enrollment period, unless another qualifying event occurs.
